Alprazolam, or what we commonly know as “Xanax,” “Reclam,” and “Niravam” here in the US, is one of the few benzodiazephine psychoactive drugs available generically. This short-acting drug is commonly used by hospitals to treat moderate to severe anxiety disorders, essential tremors, and panic attacks.
Although a highly potent psychoactive drug, some patients still experience side effects after taking Alprazolam (In most cases, this happens because they exhibited signs of allergic reactions to it). Common Alprazolam side effects include hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, drowsiness, Euphoria, depression, tremor, and restlessness. This is the main reason why the use of Alprazolam is avoided or carefully monitored by medical professionals.
There are a number of deaths attributed to Alprazolam overdose. About 50 % of these cases were caused by the combined drug toxicity of Alprazolam, most often, with cocaine and methadone.
Xanax is the most popular brand of Alprazolam in pharmacies. Other brand names include Aloram, Alprax, Alprox, Alzam, Anxirid, Apo-Alpraz, Calmax, Frontal, Frontin, Gerax, Kalma, Kinax, Neurol, and Trika.
Alprazolam, like Soma, is a drug with high abuse rates, although its abuse is considerably less than other benzodiazepines like Flunitrazepam, Nimetazepam, and Temazepam. Its popularity as an illicit drug in the black market made it earn the names T-Bras, Xanies, Sticks, French Fries, and Xanners, etc.
